After being in the restaurant business for 10 years, Café Corazón has proved their meret with multiple award winning drinks and dishes. They offer traditional fresh Mexican cuisine with both meat and vegan options, so there is something for everyone! There are three different locations in the greater Milwaukee area: Bay View, Riverwest, and Mequon. Happy hour is Monday – Friday from 2pm – 6pm, and don’t forget to try an award winning Margarita for $5 on select days. If you can’t make it to one of the locations, Mequon offers delivery through DoorDash and GrubHub. Wendy, a co-founder, sat down to share a little more information on who they are.
Tell me about Café Corazón.
Café Corazón is in its tenth year of serving fresh, farm to table Mexican cuisine in Riverwest, Bay View, and our new location in the Mequon Public Market. We are committed to sustainability, we compost, buy as much food as we can from local farmers, and we have an urban garden where multiple staff members work during the summer growing food for the restaurant.
What range of goods do you sell?
Our focus is farm-to-table Mexican cuisine, but we love to branch out and explore other Latin styles of food as well. We serve up a delicious margarita and have been voted best Margarita several years in a row.
What are you bringing to Veg Out Fest?
We’re bringing one of our favorite soups, our Vegan Pozole! We have adapted a traditional Mexican soup made with pork and hominy into a delicious vegan soup. We have Vegan Thursdays at all our locations with $1 off all vegan dishes and this quickly became a popular, favorite.
What are some of your most popular items?
While our tacos are probably the most popular menu item, the Corazón Wet Burrito has got to be the star of the show! We take our Corazon burrito and smother it in red enchilada sauce, melted cheese, and lime cilantro crema. We’ve been voted Best Burrito in Milwaukee several times, and we’re super proud of it.
What is your favorite thing to make?
We asked one of our Riverwest cooks, Bo, and he said the stuffed pepper and the tostada (both can be made vegan/vegetarian) are fun to make because they are layering and stacking the ingredients. The end result is really pretty with all the fresh vegetables and colors.
Any new products coming out soon you’d like to announce?
We just debuted our new taco truck! The truck can be booked for private parties, and we plan to bring it out for events throughout the year.
Come out to Veg Out Fest to try their Vegan Pozole! You won’t want to miss them. Veg Out Fest will be held March 21 11am-2pm in the American Serb Hall. Tickets are only $5, kids six and under are free.
